Stock Steering servo on all 1/16 traxxas models
Comments:
This servo to fragile for the job.
The plastic gears are far to weak, even with a properly working servo-saver they shatter with a minimum hit.
And when you don't break the gears the electronics burn or the motor overheats and get burned.
The only reason you should be looking at this servo is to find a replacement...

this servo is every bit as bad as anything you've heard about it. don't use it. if you need a waterproof servo, soak a different model in corrosion x.

Comments:
really weak. The electronics failed after less than 3 hours of use. I´m looking for a more robust replacement. Traxxas should do some service campaign on this item.
I live in Argentina and it cost usd 47. A better replacemet costs even more.

I downgraded the summit 1/16 to a four cell battery for my kid. Can't remember a serious hit, but still the servo gear was broken in the first half an hour of driving the brand new downtuned car. My dealer said: No warranty replacement by Traxxas

Broke after a pack and a half on the new stock truck. No crazy driving - a few roll overs during runs up and down the street - and the gears are stripped. A pretty cheap and easy fix but should NOT strip this easily.

Junk stripped out 1 hour out of the box traxxas replacing for free. Why don't they upgrade to metal gears?

Comments:
Failed within the first hour of using the truck. Seems to be an issue with the motor or pot, it was causing my ESC to behave erratically, eventually causing transmission gears to get shredded. I thought the problem was a short on the ESC, but after Traxxas kindly replaced my motor and ESC I still had the same problem. Finally traced it back to this servo.
After reading these reviews, don't think I'll bother with an exact replacement. Thanks!

Traxxas 1/16 SUMMIT VXL (#7207)
Comments:
I have similar troubles with the servo. The plastic gears were broken after 15 minutes of driving on the smooth road. I changed the position of gears (rotated by 180 degrees), and after that used my vehicle 3 times (3 cycles for the battery.) After that, gears have disintegrated completely; servo rotated for quite a long time; and my vehicle was no longer operational. If I now rotate resistor in the servo in one direction, the servo-motor rotates and the vehicle rides. If I rotate the resistor in servo in another direction, the receiver LED blinks, and the vehicle do not work at all.
I would not purchase the same servo any more. Can somebody suggest another servo with similar characteristics?

Stock servo in 1/16th VXL Slash
Comments:
This servo is every bit as bad as everything you've read about it. I bought a 1/16th VXL Slash and a friend told me the servo will probably let go within a week. 1.5 packs later, he was right. Currently shopping for a new servo. Only way I'd replace with this is if it was free.

This servo sucks!! Used truck 4 times out of the box and servo took a crap. Gears shredded and internally shorted causing esc to do erratic behavior! Traxass needs to step up and put a better servo for a truck that's $300 bucks!

i ran the truck for about 3 battery packs, did a few speed runs, a back-flip or two and the gears are shredded down to dust, called traxxas and they are sending me a servo for free, next time this happens im switching to metal geared servos.

Pretty fast, but strips gears easily. Stock servo saver way to stiff so no servo protection. Had one burn it's electonics after like 20 short runs. Also 2 stripped gears one after another.
Not for offroad use, onroad only with good saver.

Burnt after some hours of bashing. Opened the case and some smd components were toasted. This servo is a hoax. e-revo 1/16 has two more crappy parts: xl2.5 ESC burns easyly and shocks bottom caps leak a lot.

After 8-10 packs, one of the gears stripped. I replaced the gear. Then after 3-5 packs, the servo just died. Will not recommend. A great replacement could be the Turnigy TGY-390DMH!

Do not waste your time or money on this piece of garbage. Bad enough that I recommend you choose another brand of dv unit alltogether. Traxxas refuses to address this clear failure on their part. Keep looking

If you want a good MONEY PIT this is it, Had the E-Revo 7 days and have had to make 4 trips the the hobby shop to get parts.
I should have just went to the hobby shop and built the E-Revo from the ground up, I think it would of been cheaper to do so now that I'm there every other day to fix Traxxas Mistakes

Comments:
Unpacked car and charged stock battery. While running on first battery in living room in training mode the car suddenly began making a grinding noise when I turned left only. After checking all of the forums, I found that the servo is failing an awful lot on these Traxxas 1/16 RC cars. I will be purchasing a different brand of servo after my warranty is up. The 2080 servo is a piece of junk and apparantly Traxxas is not doing anything about it.

I keep a zip-lock bag that says "Bad" on it. It now has 4 2080s in it and that's only since I decided to keep them. (I keep expecting Traxxas to admit their failure and offer to replace them -- yeah right!). I'm not that rough -- never stripped a gear, but I expect the electronics to fail on a regular basis. I keep several backups that I buy when I find one cheap on eBay. I have used the Hitec replacements. No problems, just a little more hassle to install.
